How it all Started

Frustrated solo travellers need a better way to capture photographs to make their travel experience memorable.

Sabrina, a graphic designer and a travel photographer enthusiast, needs a way to capture more of the surroundings in her pictures to develop a better eye for composition.

The Problem:

Tourists need a way to capture photographs and videos having the scenic backgrounds of their vacation spot without requiring assistance and which is within their budget.

The Solution:

RentWings is a drone renting app that allows the tourist to capture, catch and create precious memories of their vacation.

Background

Photographs and videos are usually taken on a vacation to remember the precious moments and preserve it as a memory forever.

During user research I discovered that tourists usually can’t capture the in person amazing and scenic view from normal photographic techniques. They usually require assistance while taking pictures when capturing the whole background, which causes tourists a discontented trip. This leads to vacation spot losing its fame and popularity and in turn affecting the revenue of the location.

How can we help tourists improve their quality of photographs and videos of their vacation without requiring assistance?

User Persona

After analyzing all the user interviews, a user persona was created based on some common thoughts of my interviewees.

User Persona.

Brain Storming

I wanted to brain storm using I like, I wish, what if method and prioritize the features for the app design using prioritization matrix.

I like, I wish , what if.

Story Board

To better understand the user's experience with the application, a storyboard was designed.

User Journey Map

After gathering our research and learning more about our users,I then worked on a journey map of a typical user's experience. This was a great way to walk in the user's shoes and empathize with their emotional states during a certain process.

Paper Wireframes

To get a better understanding of the layout of the application, I drew a few paper sketches of how I visualized the design. This application was originally called Zenith(Definition - The point in the sky or celestial sphere directly above an observer) but was later changed to RentWings so that it could be relatable to its value proposition statement.

Iterations Made Based on User Test

  • BackButton:
Added back button to all the screens
  • Access Point:
Added homepage so users have a point of access
  • Value Proposition:
    Added better value proposition statement
  • Cutting it out:
Removed extra screens which helped reach user goal faster.
  • No Sign in:
Removed sign in as it was not well thought of
  • Credits:
Needed to give credits to pictures taken by photographers who previously used the app to take pictures of their vacation

Final Version

Future Iterations

Moving forward I would like to work in an agile environment and work on completing the following iterations to design a full fledged application

Conclusion

In future projects, I wish to start early on the research phase and create mockups. I would want to choose a mockup design and stick with the design rather than hoping from one application to another to find ideas. Finally,I would want to include more testing.

Thank you.
